Chanel Victorious in its Latest Trademark Battle 19.07.2017 07:59 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Chanel has prevailed – to an extent – in its latest fight to protect its iconic double “C” logo. The European Union’s General Court (“General Court”) held on Tuesday that a lookalike trademark being marketed by an Italian wholesale jewelry company infringes Chanel’s famous mark. The EU General Court’s decision overturns an unfavorable ruling from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (“EUIPO”) Appeals Board.

According to the General Court, China-born, Spain-based Li Jing Zhou’s trademark for two interlocking “S” shapes for use on jewelry in connection with his company Golden Rose 999 Srl, bears “remarkable similarities” to Chanel’s mark, and as a result, could give rise to consumer confusion.

In prior proceedings, the EUIPO held that "the differences between [Zhou’s trademark and Chanel’s trademark] drawings were not insignificant" and that "[Zhou’s trademark] produced in the informed user a different overall impression" than that famous Chanel logo.

However, the General Court has since held that the EUIPO "erred in considering that [Zhou’s] drawing has a unique character to Chanel's monogram" and that actually, both drawings have "striking similarities." The ruling also emphasizes the possibility of Zhou’s trademark being used in different angles, and thus, would appear more like the Chanel mark, which would likely give rise to confusion.

In its decision, which can be appealed to the European Court of Justice, the General Court formally annulled the EUIPO’s decision but rejected Chanel’s request to have the contested trademark declared invalid, saying this was not within its purview to do so. Instead, the General Court held that it is for the EUIPO to draw the consequences of the judgment and to take the necessary measures to comply with it.

Even Shaq's Son Is a Model Now 12.07.2017 12:10 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Even Shaq's Son Is a Model Now; Jason Wu Launches First Fragrance

Shaq's Son Is a Model on the Rise

There are so many celeb spawn models in Dolce & Gabbana's #DGMillennial squad that we almost missed a big one: Myles B. O'Neal, son of Shaquille O'Neal (you may know Shaq as the star of the 1996 classic, Kazaam). Myles not only walked in Dolce & Gabbana's June menswear presentation in Milan alongside Dylan Brosnan (son of Pierce) and Tyler Clinton (nephew of Bill and Hillary), but also made an appearance on the runway for the New York-based label Descendant of Thieves, which showed its fall collection on Monday at New York Fashion Week: Men's. Young Myles also has a burgeoning rap career, and before you ask, no, he doesn't play basketball.

Jason Wu Launches First Fragrance

Jason Wu is getting into the fragrance game by launching his very first perfume — a "fresh, floral and woody scent" — for his eponymous brand. The bottle will retail for $145 and be available at Saks Fifth Avenue beginning in August. Lily Aldridge was photographed by Inez and Vinoodh for the campaign, which features the fresh-faced model posing with the bottle designed by Wu in partnership with architect Andre Mellone.

CFDA Continues Its Partnership With Planned Parenthood for NYFW: Men's

The CFDA is carrying over its partnership with Planned Parenthood to New York Fashion Week: Men's, which is currently underway. The partnership, which launched in February at NYFW, continues to raise awareness for the organization by distributing "Fashion Stands with Planned Parenthood" pins and encouraging members of the industry to get involved with the cause.

Gisele Bundchen Wears Faux-Fur on Vogue Paris' Animals Issue

Gisele Bundchen looks cavewoman cool while dripping in faux fur on the cover of Vogue Paris' August issue, which is dedicated to animals. Images from the spread, photographed by Inez and Vinoodh, see Bundchen carrying various cute and furry creatures, from kangaroos to bunnies, all while showing off the industry's best faux options. Also in the issue, longtime animal rights activist Stella McCartney discusses the best alternatives to animal products.

Short Dress & These Comfy Shoes 10.07.2017 08:50 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Kourtney Kardashian Embraces Braless Trend in Very Short Dress & These Comfy Shoes

Strutting in a sexy dress teamed with high heels is a fine choice for a night out, but Kourtney Kardashian knew her Saturday afternoon excursion called for something practical.

While celebrating her daughter Penelope Disick’s 5th birthday in Calabasas, Calif., the E! fixture was dressed for comfort from head-to-toe — opting to not wear a bra under a figure-flattering ribbed orange mini dress that she complemented with minimalist white Raf Simons x Adidas sneakers.

Kardashian made a wise choice in footwear for a day of revelry. The low-top leather white shoes feature a round toe profile and perforated logo at sides. The kicks retail for $395, but are currently on sale for $166 on ssense.

On Friday she had on a similar color palette at Los Angeles International Airport, where she was dressed in orange trackpants and white sneakers.

Eschewing a bra is nothing new for Kardashian and some other celebrities who have embraced the trend.

In April, Kardashian arrived bra-less at Alice + Olivia’s eyewear launch party in L.A., wearing Saint Laurent’s black tuxedo blazer and matching trousers with Paris Skinny pointed-toe patent-leather pumps.

For Selena Gomez, the attempt at the bra-less look didn’t go so well on a date night in June with The Weeknd. Gomez suffered a slight wardrobe malfunction when her Alexandre Vauthier semi-sheer dress exposed her body through thin fabric that revealed her chest at the front and her underwear from behind.

Get Toasty With Your Favorite Pair of Cute Socks 07.07.2017 05:35 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Rainy days sometimes force us to stay indoors, wearing our pajamas and sipping our coffee. My favorite part about is wearing comfy socks to keep my feet warm.

Look in your drawers and count how many cute socks you rarely use outdoors. If you often felt bad about buying them, don’t be! This season is the right time to wear them in the comfort of your own home. We rounded up a few more pairs of socks, including classic-looking ones for those who prefer toned-down designs.

Under Armour Heat Gear Crew Socks

Commonly used for sports and fitness activities, these calf-length socks would surely keep you snug and warm. Made with polyblend, these will also provide flexibility and breathability for your feet. If you decide to use this during workouts, their Heat Gear technology will wick off sweat and keep your feet dry all throughout.

H&M 5-Pack Ankle Socks

Can’t decide on what design you want to wear? Choose from H&M’s cotton socks, which has camo print and solid color finishes. These are also perfect to pair with low-cut sneakers.

River Island Cream ‘Pug of Tea’ Heart Socks

Admit it: You can’t say no to anything pet-printed like this one from River Island. It’s a girly choice for many, but the pug print and the witty pun is difficult to pass up on. Plus, at least the pug can attest to your love for tea.

Mango 2-Pack Knee-Length Ribbed Socks

Knee-length socks remind me of Japanese uniforms for girls. Short skirts, vests, and those socks were almost inseparable in their wardrobe. Instead of the traditional monochromatic choice, we picked out bright colors like orange and blue to add more fun to your outfit. You can even wear these with your shorts and sneakers when going out. 2.

Uniqlo Dotted Women’s Socks

The dotted design on these Uniqlo socks give off a classic look. They’re also a good pair for the dark-colored pajamas you’ll wear at home—or outdoors if you want to dress like Selena Gomez.

Happy Socks Argyle 037

Add vibrance to your gloomy day with these bright and preppy pair from Happy Socks. The argyle pattern has a mix of pink, purple, blue, green, and yellow—the ideal statement piece for any time of the day.

Why Slow Fashion Is Picking Up The Pace 03.07.2017 08:43 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Fast food; Slow food. Fast fashion; Slow fashion. It can be hard to stay in sync with the pace of life. There’s no question that this shift in gear reflects a new age in conscious consumerism. Nowhere is this more apparent than in fashion, where the philosophy of ‘buy less, buy better’ has acquired popular kudos. Fashion has always had activism in its DNA, so it was only a matter of time before the industry came clean, especially following the Rana Plaza disaster.

And, for the socially self-conscious cynics out there - unsure whether being virtuous might compromise their cool-rankings or, heaven-forbid, their Instagram followers - get this: when high priests of hedonism Liam Gallagher and Harry Styles profess to ‘being good’, we know that good has become hip. The 1D heartthrob says “I don’t drink much”, while the Mancunian music legend - told Jo Whiley at Glastonbury that “I’m taking care of myself nowadays [...] and I’m feeling good”.

Back to fashion. The fastest growing conscious consumer sector, which grew by 72% in 2010, ethical fashion only continues to pick up pace. “A fabulous beautifully made jacket is not going to disappear out of fashion next year”, says the premium British designer Amanda Wakely. Meanwhile, Safia Minney MBE, founder of People Tree, and a leading campaigner on trade policies, is also the author of ‘Slow Fashion: Aesthetics meets Ethics’, now considered a bible for the Slow Fashion movement.

The Fashion Revolution

If fashion buyers want SS18 trends, they may well be surprised. “Sustainability or responsible innovation is by far the biggest trend in the industry right now,” says Eva Kruse, chief executive of Global Fashion Agenda, which organises the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, though it was Sir Martin Sorrell who coined the phrase “doing good is good business” back in 2010. That London ethical based brand Gandys - founded by the Forkan brothers under their ‘Orphans for Orphans’ initiative with flip-flops - recently launched its first womenswear collection, is also revealing.

It also coincides with the move upmarket for Thought Clothing - formerly Braintree Clothing. Over the past 18 months, this ethical brand has been repositioning with the aim of sitting alongside more contemporary brands such as Toast and Mint Velvet.

Total ethical spending in the UK is now worth £54billion (2016) and represents around 7% of all UK consumer spending, which is more than we spend on cigarettes and alcohol, combined. The value of overall ethical sales grew by 8 %to £38billion in 2015, during a period when inflation barely rose above 0.5 %, according to the new Ethical Consumer Markets report.

Sustainable Style

Looking at the fashion specifically - valued at £28bn in the UK - is fascinating. Throughout 2017 the British Fashion Council has been celebrating Positive Fashion best practice, creating a dialogue and providing a platform to tell good news stories that help facilitate change.

The militant ethical activism of figures such as Vivienne Westwood and Zandra Rhodes has filtered down to the ever-demanding Gen Z, now buying into H&M’s ‘Conscious Collection’, albeit sometimes unwittingly, which arguably is just the point. As a language and mindset, sustainability is one in which we have become fluent.

For a long time, conscious consumers have felt neglected. ‘Why must ethical, affordable and fashion each be mutually exclusive?’ seems to sum up the widespread grievance. The raw reality for well-intentioned retailers is this: shoppers buy on design and style first. Sustainable fashion needed to catch up and the demand needed to be there.

Sustainable has now got stylish and affordable. There are signs that people are buying less but buying better - Mintel found this was true for 69% of women aged 25-44 - but even so, saving up for a piece from, say, Stella McCartney - however beautiful and ethically-made - is beyond the budgets of most people, which is why the democratisation of ethical fashion is such a fabulous thing.

New Plus-Size Clothing Line 29.06.2017 09:07 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Rebel Wilson Wants to Celebrate All Figures With New Plus-Size Clothing Line

"I'm wearing my party shoes," actress Rebel Wilson laughed, as she looked down at the fuchsia suede heels she'd chosen to accessorize the hip-hugging black dress from her new plus-size contemporary fashion line, REBEL WILSON X ANGELS, that she donned for the launch celebration Tuesday night in New York.

"Obviously I just feel like plus-size fashion is underserved and, since the average size of an American women is 16 to 18, why aren't there more brands, more options?" Wilson said as she took a moment before the party started to explain why she jumped full-on into the fashion game with partner The Mamiye Group. The collection debuts at select department stores like Nordstrom, Dillard’s and Lord & Taylor and online next month and will include new deliveries every six weeks. (Retail prices range from $49 to $298.) "Style shouldn't just stop at size 2 or 4," Wilson said. "This venture is constantly updating itself so we can create on-trend pieces."

Wilson said that as an actress, she's used to working with a stylist and often having custom pieces made for the red carpet or her private life and that's given her a store of knowledge to share with her potential customers. In fact, her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, is a consultant on the collection as well. "But then we are also listening to the customers and hearing what they are wanting," Wilson added. "So we are trying to bring in the things that I would exactly wear and the things that the customers want and they need." And what she's finding they're asking for is occasion dressing.

"They're a big thing, especially what I call 'body-con.' There's not a lot out there that’s on the more youthful side. There's a lot of more 'auntie dresses' in plus-size," she said. "I like to present a very confident, youthful energy, and we have a lot of cute dresses that are fitted where they should be fitted. I think that’s why girls relate to me, because I have an inner confidence. I’m not looking to hide people's figures, I’m looking to celebrate them."

With a size range from 14 to 24, Wilson said the collection includes innovative lycra-infused denim pieces developed with "cool" new technology and a range of everyday necessities. "I found that people would see me on the Ellen show and be like, 'Where did you get that from?' and usually it was just custom-made and they wouldn’t be able to get it. Now I can say, 'Here’s where you can find it.'"

African fashion, most vibrant worldwide – Dutch fashion promoter

A Dutch-African fashion promoter based in Holland, Joan Drost, has described African fashion as the most vibrant and colourful in the world. Drost told the Newsmen on Monday in Lagos that variation of, especially, Nigerian outfits made them stood above the rest of the world.

“”The Nigerian fashion is quite colourful and diverse. The styles are as numerous as the designs and fabrics.

“”Especially in festive periods, the Nigerian fashion glitters. You hardly find five persons with same outfit or colour, unlike the English fashion that is one directional. ” When you travel out, you see similar styles and colours. Men in black or cream suits and women in gowns or skirts with similar colours.” He said that the fast acceptance of the African fabrics ““Ankara’’ by companies such as Daviva, UNTL, ABC, had improved the vibrance of the Nigerian fashion.

““The Ankara is fast gaining acceptance in the world of fashion because even the international fashions have modelled their foreign styles using the African fabrics.

“”You currently discover that suits and even wedding gowns have been designed using “Ankara fabrics, which demonstrates the extent of acceptance internationally,’’ he said. Drost, who is the brand and marketing consultant to some African fabrics manufacturers, said that all his wears were made from Ankara stuff, including his official suits and trousers

. “”Absolutely, all my outfits are designed using Ankara fabrics, I love the vibrant colours and designs and durability when properly managed,’’ he told Newsman. The Dutch-African fashion promoter, who is currently on tour of Abuja Enugu and Lagos, said owners of the fashion might not value the aesthetics of it unless they tour the world.

“”Nigerians may not appreciate the beauty of their vibrant fashion until they experience the monopoly and one direction of other fashions.

“”The diversity of the Nigerian tribes is the beauty of the variety of her fashion. They have unique options to choose from, so why not stick to them,’’ he said. Drost said that the international community currently wore the African fabrics more proudly than the owners. He, therefore, urged all tiers of government to support the fabric industries so that their increased production would boost the tourism sector.

a khaki utility jacket 24.06.2017 05:16 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

A few places where I’ve seen khaki utility jackets recently: on Kate Moss, teamed with black jeans and a leopardprint scarf, spotted out and about in Highgate. On a beach in Ibiza one afternoon when it got chilly and the woman whose lovely soft linen tiered maxi beach dress I had been admiring (didn’t get close enough to sneak a peek at the label, I’m afraid. Kalita, maybe? Lisa Marie Fernandez? Not cheap, anyway) pulled one out of her monogrammed raffia beach tote. On the Valentino resort catwalk in New York, embroidered and worn over a white shirt dress. Oh, and last but not least, on me: this Topshop feathered number has been my go-to spring/summer jacket for two months.

Kate Moss, Ibiza, Valentino, feathers. Join the dots: the khaki shirt-jacket isn’t a dowdy utility jacket any more. A jacket that was once camouflage, and therefore deliberately drab, has become a look-at-me item. This makes it perfect for Glastonbury, where clothes whose practical surface belies a thinly disguised vanity are what style is all about. (See the backstage-battered Barbour jacket, the surprisingly flattering cut of Hunter wellies when worn with cut-offs.)

But a khaki jacket isn’t just a festival thing. If you’re a jeans-wearer, I promise you will find it useful, because jackets on the same smartness level as denim, but in a different fabric, are much more useful than denim jackets now that double denim isn’t a Thing. Just as a black leather biker jacket is the perfect autumn partner to a pair of jeans, a khaki shirt-jacket is the logical-but-not-matching partner for summer.

You might assume that the plain, no-frills type of khaki shirt-jacket would be the most sensible option. But the kind of plain clothes that are a charming foil for world-famous-supermodel-level beauty can look a bit, well, normal on us norms. The kind with feathers or embroidery mean you don’t have to bother with the heels, or earrings, if you don’t fancy it, to signal your glamour. This jacket does the fashionable heavy lifting for you. My kind of utility jacket, frankly.

Kim Kardashian West’s beauty line 22.06.2017 09:57 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Everything you need to know about Kim Kardashian West’s beauty line

Social media has been buzzing with speculation since Kim Kardashian West announced that she was launching a beauty range last week. Having drip fed fans information via her Twitter and Instagram accounts, Kim faced both applause for finally branching out into beauty and disdain for her ‘blackwashing’ imagery. Some fans even accused the reality TV star of treading on her younger sister Kylie Jenner's business. As soon as Kim announced that her debut product would be a contouring kit though, it all fell into place with Kylie Cosmetics taking colour cosmetics and KKW Beauty focusing on base make-up.

For fans, the wait is finally over and today the reality star’s Creme Contour and Highlight Kit is available to buy online. Here's everything we know so far about the range...

What is the Creme Contour and Highlight Kit?

While it might have been inevitable that Kim launched her beauty range with a contouring product, considering she brought the technique to the masses, the reality TV star has explained, “The reason I wanted to do cream contour first is that I’ve been wearing less make-up recently. I love to look bronzy and tanned.”

At first glance, the kit looks impressively easy-to-use and foolproof. There are four shades; light, medium, dark and deep dark, and each stick has a matte finish cream at one end and highlighter at the other. There’s also a dual-ended tool to blend with a sponge and a brush.

How do you use the Creme Contour and Highlight Kit?

For those unacquainted with contouring as a make-up technique, Kim has posted her five-minute face tutorial using the kit. Admittedly, she does use several shades, but the video gives you plenty of tips for achieving a sculpted finish.

What’s next for KKW Beauty?

In an interview with WWD, Kim confirmed that we can expect more from KKW Beauty and she’s not restricting it to make-up. “A lot of my stuff is going to be for skin… It’s going to be a different vibe; it’s not going to be a full colour cosmetics range with shadows and all of that to start.” So stay tuned for KKW Beauty skincare...

Luxury Handbags 20.06.2017 12:01 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

The Entrepreneur Bringing the Build-a-Bear Method to Luxury Handbags

While working in marketing and sales, Australian-based Mon Purse founder Lana Hopkins found herself on a seemingly impossible quest. “I was running around Sydney looking for the perfect handbag and I just couldn’t find one,” she recalls. “It was quite heartbreaking.” All Hopkins wanted was a simple black bag with gold hardware — which, apparently, was too much to ask. “Every bag I saw had silver hardware,” she remembers, “and I thought, if I could only change that one little tiny thing …”

A fortuitous experience at the custom teddy-bear chain Build-a-Bear for her nephew’s birthday soon inspired Hopkins to launch her custom handbag business in 2014. The Build-a-Bear of luxury handbags, if you will, Mon Purse started online as a place a where women could personalize every detail of their handbags, choosing a silhouette and then customizing everything from the color down to the hardware, lining, and monogram — all at price points below $700, delivered to their doorsteps within 4 weeks.

Mon Purse now offers over 10 billion style combinations as well as (also customizable) small leather goods, phone cases, and beyond, and also has instant-gratification brick-and-mortar locations in London, Australia, and the U.S. — with more on the way. (Hopkins is set to open at least five new stores this year in the U.S. alone). Hopkins’s secret formula? Quality plus a dose of originality. “It wasn’t about completely redesigning the bag,” she says, “I’m not Tom Ford. But, it was about customizing it to perfection.”

Karen Elson Dishes on Her Best-Kept Vintage Secrets 16.06.2017 08:07 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Karen Elson Dishes on Her Best-Kept Vintage Secrets And Flea-Market Hunting With Anna Sui

How do you describe your personal style?

I am a very feminine woman. I wear dresses pretty much five days out of the seven. I have always had an affinity for vintage clothing; I’ve collected it for years. I wear my jeans and little ripped t-shirts from time to time. I’ve got a collection of t-shirts I’ve picked up along the way. As I’ve got older, my style has got a lot more relaxed. Having kids as well makes it necessary.

How has your career in modeling influenced your personal style over the years?

A lot, actually! It’s been a pleasure to be around these brilliant designers and it’s given me an education, from Marc Jacobs to Alexander McQueen when he was alive, to Anna Sui, to Valentino, those guys have really influenced my style because they bring the fantasy. When I was younger, Anna Sui and I would go to the Chelsea Flea Market when it was open and we would go vintage shopping. She would teach me about textiles and designers from the ’60s and ‘70s that she’d think I would be into. Fashion has very much influenced my style. It made me more daring but also made me understand what feels good on me as well.

What trend would you never be caught dead in?

I’m not a crop top and sportswear kind of gal. I’ll go to the gym, I’ll go for a run but sport leisurewear is not for me.

"Tabitha [Simmons] is one of my oldest friends. I met her in Tokyo on practically my first day of modeling, when I was 16. She was a model then and we became fast, dear friends. I love her and I love her shoes, and I am so proud of her. I have over 20 pairs. They’re the only shoes I wear on stage since the first record, when she made a Karen shoe for me."

Are there any designers you collect?

I do collect Ossie Clark—he was a ’60s and ’70s designer—because his dresses are incredibly beautiful and his textiles are so unique, Anna Sui obviously I’ve known her for years, and I’ve got so many of her dresses. Same with Marc Jacobs. And McQueen as well, years ago, when he was at Givenchy, he so kindly gave me Givenchy Couture dresses. I’ve got some very beautiful pieces that I’ll probably never wear again but I am holding onto everything for my daughter.

You used to own a vintage store in Nashville. What happened?

It was too much work on top of everything else I do. My vintage is very dreamy, slip dresses from Paris flea markets. Nashville is into a rock and roll t-shirt, not the delicate vintage I would have. I loved having the shop but it became cumbersome, honestly.

Some shoes can be too exposed 14.06.2017 07:54 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

‘Some shoes can be too exposed’ – founders of Malone Souliers on ‘modest’ footwear

There’s a phrase that Londoners use to describe a certain type of shoe. Those glamorous but undeniably uncomfortable heels, which all women fall prey to at some point in their lives, are referred to as "taxi-to-dinner" shoes, because that’s about as far as you can walk before discomfort turns your strut into a wobble. Mary Alice Malone, the designer behind London-based shoe brand Malone Souliers, makes a point of not creating those kinds of shoes. Comfort is king, she tells me. "It’s everything. It’s where we start," she says during a trip to Dubai to unveil the autumn/winter 2017 collection with luxury e-tailer The Modist.

Because Malone pursued furniture design before finding her calling in footwear, she understands ergonomics. "I want women to be comfortable standing and I want them to have a natural gait when they walk. Part of the beauty of high heels is a woman in motion, so if she’s walking like a hobbled horse, then I don’t care how beautiful the shoes are, I consider that unsuccessful design," she says. It’s similar with furniture. "Both items need to be functional before they can be beautiful. You’re bound by functionality, and there is technology to adhere to before you can come to the pretty lines and pretty colours."

When we meet, Malone is wearing a black boiler suit with exaggerated shoulders, and a pair of slides crafted from wine-coloured velvet, from her new collection. She has two piercings in her nose – a ring in her septum, and a turquoise stud on one side. Joining her is the brand’s co-founder and managing director Roy Luwolt, who wears a kimono-style robe, a total of five chunky silver rings and fur-lined Gucci slippers.

The shoes displayed around them range from pointed, backless slippers to the label’s signature mules. Some of the designs are decorated with linear gold straps and some – such as the ones Malone is wearing – with plush velvet or metallic detailing reminiscent of men’s brogues. Designs are sharp, with clear architectural influences, but it’s the brand’s quiet approach to luxury that has garnered it a cult following, and the attention of The Modist’s founder Ghizlan Guenez, whom Luwolt calls a "powerhouse".

While Luwolt acknowledges that modesty is generally dictated by what’s worn above the shoe, he notes that "the loudness [of shoes] is where modesty is pulled or pushed". Malone believes that some shoes can look vulgar and that her own designs have strong ties to modesty. "Our approach to shoes is this tension between conceal and reveal," she says. "Some shoes can be too exposed, and that’s something I’ve always shied away from because I don’t think it connects as much with the innate femininity of the wearer. I like when there’s substance and intrigue to the shoe; I think that’s where the beauty comes from."

Low-key luxury is part of the brand’s DNA, which has found favour with high-end clients worldwide. "I think we’re like the geeky students in class; we don’t play the mainstream approach," says Luwolt, explaining that the brand is selective about the names that it aligns itself and collaborates with – fashion label Roksanda, for instance.

"We get excited about the celebrities who wear our stuff, only when they are certain celebrities," he says. Many, such as Emma Roberts, Solange Knowles, Ellie Goulding and Poppy Delevingne, have worn the brand’s footwear, but the celebrity moment that stands out most for the duo, was when their block-heeled Marjorie shoes were worn by Amal Clooney. "She wore the shoes in a conference room – I mean, nothing interesting at all, but obviously probably saving like a thousand lives in an hour or something like that," says Ruwolt. They were sent a photograph – a tight shot of Clooney wedged in between chairs and a wooden table. "Even though that’s not the most beautiful or red-carpet photo, we were like: ‘Oh my God, she’s wearing the shoes.’" Still, Luwolt emphasises that famous names are not the brand’s target. "Celebrity isn’t our main sort of channel; it’s certainly a support service, but it isn’t number one," he says.

And for those looking for something extra special, the brand offers made-to-measure services. "It’s an important aspect to preserve; we are handmade and that’s something that follows the traditionalist approach to craftsmanship," explains Luwolt, adding that made-to-measure represents about 3 per cent of the business. "It was never meant to be bigger. Increasing exclusivity – that very phrase itself is a contradiction and a paradox."

Psychedelic Boots at Charles Jeffrey Loverboy

Charles Jeffrey, one of the buzziest names in the London Fashion Week Men’s lineup, hosted his first solo runway show on Saturday, having graduated from the Fashion East program.

For his debut presentation he pulled out all stops, channelling the eccentric, party-loving spirit he became known for after hosting his infamous “Loverboy” series of gatherings in East London, where attendees often let loose in their most extravagant self-made outfits and makeup.

The show was a playful concoction of color and texture, ranging from abstract printed T-shirts and jackets to oversized pinstripe suits embellished with ruffles and chunky deconstructed knits. The footwear embraced the same spirit: there were plenty of lace-up boots in a bright palette of reds, blues and metallic gold worn with even brighter striped knee-high socks.

Among the standouts were a pair of knee-high lace-up boots in bright printed and striped leather, as well as chunky cork platforms highlighting Jeffrey’s affinity with blurring the lines between the masculine and the feminine and for championing self expression.

you should have gone full Eurotrash 06.06.2017 12:47 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Pippa Middleton – you should have gone full Eurotrash. Not be a Sloane married to a stuffed cashmere jumper .

Oh. Em. Gee. Well said, Lauren, or, to use words more native to you, “bien dit”. (Oh, yeah, baby, that A-Level in French does not go to waste around here!) I have been keenly studying Pippa’s honeymoon wardrobe – or “trousseau”, as I prefer to call it, given the Middleton sisters do seem to have walked straight out of a 19th-century novel. But we’ll save my extensively developed theory involving Kate and Pippa and the work of William Thackeray for another day, given that I have already exceeded my pretentiousness quota for this week, and we haven’t even got out of the first paragraph.

As I said, I have been keeping a keen eye on Pippa’s honeymoon wardrobe – indeed, I have little choice in the matter, given that every morning I get approximately 17,127 emails from fashion PRs hysterically telling me Pippa wore their client’s disgusting quilted handbag while eating room service in a £11,000-a-night suite in Sydney Harbour and, excitingly, not a word of that is an exaggeration.

It really is a testament to the tenacity of fashion PRs’ belief that all publicity is good publicity that they think such an announcement is worth the email it’s written on. Even the Daily Mail – not exactly known for its support of the fashion cutting edge – sensed which way the wind was blowing when it put on its front page a photo of Pippa and her husband, James Matthews – who I genuinely think might be three Sloaney children standing on one another’s shoulders inside a Boden jumper – beneath the headline “Mr and Mrs Middle-aged on Honeymoon”. Now, given that Matthews is 41, one could claim this headline is not so much a diss as a statement of fact, but I think we all get the inference: Pippa’s wardrobe is boring. The boxy jackets, the tortoiseshell sunglasses and those espadrilles – oh, God, those espadrilles – which, of course, she totally loves. Pippa’s honeymoon has been an extended sartorial reminder about what she actually is (a Sloane) as opposed to how some of us hoped she would be (not a Sloane.)

I’ve got to hold my hands up here and admit to erring on the side of foolish optimism when it came to Pippa. Maybe it was the way she so clearly enjoys the spotlight, gifted to her purely by dint of who her sister married, but I entertained dreams of young Pip embracing the Eurotrashiness that often infuses the royal satellites. Pippa on yachts with people with names such as Spiros, wearing Roberto Cavalli kaftans; Pippa holidaying in Portofino with both Dolce and Gabbana; Pippa having a racy affair with a married Venetian prince. Basically, two cups of Princess Margaret, a cup of Lee Radziwill and a pinch of Diana is what I wanted. Instead, I got a boring Sloane in prissy dresses married to a stuffed cashmere jumper, and all I can do is kick myself for having ever expected anything else. But not in espadrilles, obviously. I’m not that cruel to myself.

Buscemi Slaps Rival Footwear Brand with Patent Lawsuit 31.05.2017 09:20 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

In something of an uncommon move for a young fashion company, luxury American footwear brand Buscemi, founded in 2013, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hong Kong-based J/Slides and its American counterpart, J/Slides NY (collectively, “J/Slides”). Filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Buscemi's complaint alleges “deliberate, willful, wanton and intentional” infringement of its 40MM Bow Design shoe.

The move is uncommon because as you may know, the process of obtaining a design patent is not only expensive, but can also take as long as two years. Given that most brands do not continue a single style across numerous seasons, usually only long-established brands invest the time and money to pursue design patents, and do so for their signature designs.

The 40MM Bow design was first introduced in the spring of 2016, and Buscemi - which was launched by designer Jon Buscemi (best known for his earlier footwear venture Gourmet) - filed an application for a design patent in June of that year. The style is sold in stores such as Neiman Marcus, Barneys, and Harrods, among others, and retails for upwards of $600. The “substantially” similar Beauty style sold by J/Slides, by comparison, is sold for under $200 at stores such as Nordstrom, Dillard’s, and Saks Off 5th, among others.

Buscemi first put J/Slides on notice of intellectual property infringement in March of 2017, by way of a cease and desist letter, Counsel for J/Slides responded, indicating “that [J/Slides] would not comply with Buscemi’s demands…including among other things, the cessation of all offering for sale and/or sales of the Accused Products.” Buscemi contacted J/Sides again in May following the issuance of the design patent.

Buscemi is now asserting that, “unless enjoined, [J/Slides] will continue to cause irreparable harm” and is seeking damages “including, but not limited to, [Buscemi’s] lost profits, a reasonable royalty, disgorgement of profits received by Defendants, treble damages pursuant to 35 U.S.C. § 284, costs, pre and post judgment interest at the maximum allowable rate, attorneys’ fees” as well as injunctive relief.

This particular lawsuit is also interesting, as we certainly thought Buscemi would be the one on the receiving end of a lawsuit in recent years thanks to its manufacture and sale of sneakers and bags that have more than a passing resemblance to the oft-heralded Birkin bag - one of Paris-based brand Hermès's most coveted items.

Retail Lessons From the South Coast Plaza Scion 26.05.2017 08:49 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

South Coast Plaza is a bright spot in a gloomy retail market littered with bankruptcies and empty malls. Built on a lima bean field in Costa Mesa, Calif., the shopping center estimates that more than 22 million visitors shop at its 250-plus boutiques, ringing up almost $2 billion in annual sales. Despite being located some 50 miles south of Los Angeles, it lured The Webster, Gianvito Rossi and Aquazzura to launch their West Coast flagships there, alongside boutiques run by Dior Homme, Fendi, Charlotte Olympia and Van Cleef & Arpels.

“Luxury likes to be near or next to luxury,” says Anton Segerstrom, a partner in the family-owned business, who got his start working behind the counter as a teen at the Courreges store.

More than 15 percent of the center's customers come from abroad, and locals include the divas from Real Housewives of Orange County. The Segerstroms also are big-time art collectors, commissioning public works by Isamu Noguchi, Richard Serra and Charles O. Perry for the public spaces, and amassing enough works in their private collection to fill two homes in Orange County.

Having offered to chauffeur Noguchi once for a chance to have a tête-á-tête, Segerstrom now sits on the board of the Orange County Museum of Art. The independent Segerstrom Center for the Arts, built on land donated by the family, has hosted performances by pianist Lang Lang and the American Ballet Theatre.

As the shopping center marks its 50th anniversary, the retail scion shares tips for growing sales and nabbing exclusives from luxury brands.

Why he admires the families that started Hermès and Zara:

Hermès was among the first luxury retailers that recognized the potential at South Coast Plaza. The Hermès family has a very clear long-term vision and has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence and savoir-faire. We also have great admiration for Amancio Ortega and the late Rosalía Mera Goyenechea, who founded Zara, and later, Inditex, and were self-made entrepreneurs. They understood the concept of making the newest fashion trends accessible to a wider audience.

The advantages of being a family-owned business:

The family ownership has been a great source of strength for us. It has enabled us to be nimble. It’s not uncommon, for example, for us to be presented with an opportunity to add a new kind of retail concept and for us to decide quickly.

A key lesson he picked up from his late father, Henry Segerstrom:

The importance of supporting and giving back to the community, especially the arts, visual and performing.

New Heights in Cannes 24.05.2017 05:35 Forum: Probleme & Feedback

Elle Fanning and Eva Longoria Take Beach Chic to New Heights in Cannes

The stars have dazzled in looks of elegance and glamour at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, but in the French beachside town, stand-out style isn’t reserved for the red carpet. Outside of the film premieres and industry parties lighting up Cannes this week, celebrities dole out time to shoot the breeze at beaches and pool clubs in the posh La Croisette zone. While Elle Fanning and Eva Longoria have each sparkled on the red carpet in their own respect, the actresses are two of a kind in how they embody beach chic. The duo sprung for open-toe shoes throughout their casual outings, but instead of opting for flats, both Fanning and Longoria showed how beachwear can be taken to new heights in polished heels.

Fanning has been spotted in multiple Miu Miu looks while out and about in Cannes representing her new film, “The Beguiled.” Having starred in the label’s SS 17 beach-themed campaign, Fanning’s second campaign as a face for Miu Miu, it’s fitting that the 19-year-old starlet would be decked out in the designer while seaside. Over the weekend, Fanning glowed in a breezy Miu Miu dress featuring a retro rotary-telephone print paired with neutral studded Jimmy Choo mules.

On day 1, she looked fresh and sophisticated wearing a blue, geo-printed dress and chunky white and gold platform heels, also by Miu Miu.

The following day, Fanning switched up the brand but kept it pretty in blue wearing a sweet embroidered dress by Temperley London and red satin “Narcisse” sandals by Laurence Dacade.

Taking similar style cues, Longoria also went for ultra-feminine heels during her beach excursions. While she is representing L’Oréal at the festival, the actress also used some time on the French Riviera to celebrate her one-year anniversary with husband José Baston. The pair have spent downtime relaxing, basking and even running, but Longoria hasn’t missed a beat in her top-notch style.

Where Miu Miu has led the charge for Fanning, Gianvito Rossi is the counterpart for Longoria. On Friday, the radiant actress stepped out in her own Eva Longoria collection checkered jacket and pants, Victoria Beckham sunglasses and black Gianvito Rossi sandals.

She again went with neutral-colored Gianvito Rossis on Monday, this time choosing a sleek, nude color choice to complement her cream ruffle-sleeved blouse and embroidered shorts by Genny.

And today, the stunning Longoria was classic and refined in all-black attire. Her choice of Manolo Blahnik heels were just the subtly chic statement necessary to pair with her off-the-shoulder David Koma dress for a stately finish.

If you’re an avid Instep reader, you know we’re serious about our beauty arsenal. We spend time talking to makeup artists about their holy grail concealers, dermatologists about which products they throw their weight behind and the many merits of volumising spray with hairstylists. We listen to everyone but always make sure we try all the products as and when we can get our hands on them. We also feel that the best part about beauty is sharing your finds with fellow obsessives. Therefore, after trying and testing countless products, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best in the market so you don’t have to.

Nails

Essie Gel Couture

We love gel manicures because they last for a long time without chipping. The downside is, if it doesn’t come on right it stays like that for a long time before you can make an effort to go to the salon and get it removed. Enter Essie’s Gel Couture that has a wide, rounded brush for perfect application that fits the contours of your cuticle and shape of your nail. The design is meant to dispense exactly the right amount of polish so you get a smooth application of color the first time.

Foundation

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

You tapped, you swiped and you found a keeper – a rare foundation that checks all the right boxes. It’s not too heavy, it blends in well and gives good overall coverage. The product also comes in a wide range of shades and works so well it needs no fancy maneuvering to blend which basically makes half our foundation woes disappear.

Hair Dryer

Dyson Supersonic

Four minutes, 17 seconds. That’s how long they claim it takes to go from wet to dry hair. We tested this claim and found that the dryer passed. We’re also fans of this particular hair dryer because it not only looks good, but unlike other hair dryers it’s also super quiet so one can actually have a conversation without struggling to hear. The dryer also gives a kind of control on temperature that is unique.

Eyebrows

Luscious Brow Luxe Tool Kit + brow luxe tinted eyebrow gel

The eyebrow kit has a wax and two soft powders that work together to give you the perfect brow colour and shape. The kit also comes with an angled brush, a tweezer and a comb to ensure your arches look totally flawless. What more do you need? To permanently lock down those unruly hairs without being sticky or crispy, use the tinted eyebrow gel.

Highlighter

Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette

The Middle Eastern beauty blogger, Huda Kattan just launched two beach-inspired highlighter palettes for lighter and darker skin tones that are wreaking havoc in the beauty world. Having worked on the formula for 18 months, she’s created a unique mixture that creates an iridescent three dimensional glow when layered on in a certain order. Plus, the palette even includes a bronzer and a blush which makes it the perfect all-in-one product for both highlighter and contouring fans.

Moisturizer

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

Buying this moisturizer will set you a back a significant amount but we find it to be a great investment for your beauty look. Imagine wrapping yourself in a down duvet with the highest possible thread count. That’s what this thick moisturizer feels like on skin – soft, comfortable, basically like heaven. This is the first cream to make our skin dewy without feeling like it’s going to clog our pores and is a dream for the summer!

Hi-tech face rollers, knitted boots: where to find them in Hong Kong

The Dictator rules: Oh, yeah? Perhaps you should be the one to enlighten me. Are you saying newfangled tools are always better? That would imply that you need to clutter your home with all sorts of contraptions, such as a shirt press, a trouser press and heaven knows what else to replace a good iron. Does a shoe-polishing machine do a better job than an experienced shoe shiner? Are massage chairs more effective than human hands? Does pressing a button on a coffeemaker give you a more delicious cup than an Italian at the helm of a traditional machine?

Barring occasional user error (yes, I’m looking at you), these are not superior. However, walking down the street every day, it’s evident that you people could use all the help you can get. NuFace’s “microcurrent” devices promise to reduce the appearance of wrinkles with a five-minute facelift, at least if you use it for five minutes a day over a period of time. Try the spring 2017 sets, which include complementary products such as the NuFace Trinity Define Your Beauty Collection (HK$2,790; Joyce Beauty); or the NuFace Mini Tone, Glow & Go Collection. ReFa from Japan offers a range of microcurrent devices, from single-ended, platinum-coated tools to 24-carat gold-plated rollers.

The Dictator: Great. Because heels and ankle socks look so good? Well, if you want knitted footwear this season, then your first stop should almost certainly be Fendi. It has created unique knitted sock booties, sandals and “trainers”, which all reach above the ankle in various combinations of navy, red, beige, black and/or white with sporty stripes to, uh, boot.

Burberry has knitted boots so whimsical, they’ve been photographed and posted in more ways than I can list here. You’ll see or will have already seen them in a black or nude stretch mesh that reaches up to the mid-calf with pointy toes and circular, sculpted heels. The brand uses the same mesh material on its black mid-calf boots with the thinnest of stiletto heels.

Gianvito Rossi has two styles that might interest you. The Vires is a stretch-knit ankle bootie that comes with an open toe in praline pink (nude), silver (grey) or black, or with a closed toe in black or poseidon blue. Making a smooth transition from high-end trainers to boots, Kanye West’s Yeezy brand has released mid-calf booties in black, ivory or greenish beige stretch knit with pointed toes and tonal, 3.5-inch block heels.

How are women wearing them? However they like, it appears. We’ve seen them paired with minis to midis to nouveau pantaloons from the catwalks to the streets. Experiment to find what works best on your figure and, please, send photos of your failures.
